Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find information about all the requirements for obtaining a license to sell insurance?
You may request a free "Insurance Licensing Examination Candidate Handbook" from the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner. Call 360-725-7144 or email TBD. You also may request this handbook free of charge from Promissor Systems, Inc. at 800-274-8949.

How long must I wait to take my licensing exam after completing the pre-license education requirements?
You may register as soon as you have completed your coursework. Exams are scheduled regularly and offered in several locations throughout the state.

I am a licensed Property and Casualty Insurance agent. Now I want to also be licensed as a Life and Disability Insurance Agent. Will I need to take the 4-hour Rules and Regulations training program again?
You will not need to take the Rules and Regulations training program if you completed that program within the previous 12-month period.

Four years ago I took your Advanced Annuities Training Course for continuing education credit. With all the changes in policies being offered now, I would like to be able to repeat that course. Will I be able to use the credits for this course to meet the State's continuing education requirement?
Yes. Any approved course taken for continuing education credit can be repeated for credit after a period of three years from the previous date of completion.

Will I receive a notice to renew my license?
The state will mail a renewal notice to your last address of record approximately two months before your license expiration date. You must renew before the expiration date even if you do not receive a notice and renewal form. The renewal form is required; if you do not receive your notice and form, call the Insurance Commissioner Licensing Section at 360-725-7144.
